West Valley City police are investigating the deaths of three disabled men after what authorities have described as a suspected carbon monoxide poisoning incident involving a vehicle at an apartment complex. Early reporting indicates the men were found deceased inside a van after being left there for a period of time.
At this stage, several important facts are still developing. Investigators will need time to confirm details such as:
- the exact timeline of events
- when and why the garage door closed
- the circumstances surrounding supervision, monitoring, and duty of care of the three disabled men
- what policies, training, and oversight applied to the driver and provider(s) involved
Carbon monoxide incidents are especially dangerous because the gas is odorless and invisible, and exposure can incapacitate people quickly—sometimes before they understand they’re in danger.
